The art of Politics is the Art of Dodge-ball

I’m sure most of the people who might stumble upon my blog will have played in their youth, at least once, the game dodge-ball. You duck, weave, dodge, and twist to avoid getting it by the ball as it is sadistically hurled by your opponents. I think an argument can be said that the same is sort of true for politics in America. Continue reading

Not Terribly Well

I seem to have gotten the cold that has so bedeviled my darling sweetie-wife. My head is powerfully congested and I am weak and worse dizzy most of the time. I did not go into my day-job today and tomorrow is problematic.

Sorry, but I have nothing witty or insightful to add today. (There are those who would assured this si the case everyday.)

Well, it’s that time again

The quarter is coming to a close and that means I need to be looking at an entry for the Writers Of The Future Contest. I stated I had a goal of entering each quarter of 2012 and this will be the second attempt.

I have once story written and ready to go, “Lady Jane” a short experimental piece that I have shown to no one. I am also nearly finished with an SF Cosmic Horror title “Lies I tell myself.” This one is  story I have tried to write many times over the years. Usually it crashes and burns, and when it goes get completed it doesn’t come close enough to my vision to send out.

This time it is going much better. If I can get it finished before the 31st then this is my entry.

A pleasant discovery

Well, we have had the car for a week now and I have to say that I am quite pleased with this purchase. I did discover a pleasant surprise on Thursday and it is one that will help me be more productive as a writer.

My normal routine is that I leave my day-job about 4 in the afternoon and drive to my sweetie-wife’s place of employment. I arrive generally about 4:30 and then I have half an hour to wait until she is done for the day and we can head home together.

Thursday I slid the driver’s seat as far back as it would go, even though I am tall I tend to drive fairly close to the wheel I suspect a lot of my height is in my torso, discovering that there was enough room between me and the steering column for my laptop, unfolded and totally usable.

Well that is just great! I have discovered another 20-25 minutes a day and over a week that is 100-125 minutes or close to two hours of extra writing time.

Rick Santorum the ‘Libertarian’ choice.

The title comes from a friend of mine who feels that Santorum is the best choice for libertarian in the current Republican field for President. I don;t agree and gee when I see that Rick Santorum wants to control what adult can see on the internet well I guess I just don’t see that as Very Libertarian. Continue reading

“I don’t think that word means what you think it means.”

The title of today’s post is of course of the many many quotable line from Rob Reiner’s classic film “The Princess Bride.” I am applying it to the Republican Primary. After all if the man who named “Front Runner” comes in third in two different primaries on the same day is it really right to keep calling him the front runner. Continue reading
