A very cool space video

It runs about 8 minutes but if you are interested in our former manned space program with the shuttle it is worth a look.

My point is that dramatic and crystal clear in-flight video of space-flight is the kind of PR that can inspire public support for manned spaceflight. How much better will it be when we can see regular people, instead of professional astronauts, floating about the cabin of Space-Ship 2 when it starts taking tourists up on suborbital flights?

Virgin-Galactic will be taking tourists up during the same era Space-X flies supply missions to the Space Station. So right when we have video of the sub-orbital tourists, Elon Musk will be promoting private colonization of Mars. That could be pretty inspirational. I sure hope.

Think of the dull TV coverage we are used to from the old-days, of middle aged guys sitting around a ground-bound control room, cutting to cheap animations simulating the flight. I can hardly think of anything worse to drain the drama and turn a young audience away from interest in space.

The future of spaceflight is we have to go places. Just going around in circles isn’t going to inspire anyone. I sincerely hope that SpaceX, Xcor, and the rest can get our assess moving again.

Nice. This kind of video is the future of spaceflight.

Bigelow and SpaceX have also made use of the cheap video camera revolution for good P.R. I hope that VirginGalactic and XCor do the same with suborbital tourism flights.
