2012, the expecting, part II

So, now let’s look at the second of 2012 and see what sort of thing your humble host and narrator might be interested in.

July 20th – The Dark Knight Rises. Oh boy! I have been a huge fan of Christopher Nolan ever since I saw Memento at an art-house theater. Except for his very first film, Following, I have loved every single Christopher Nolan film. His reboot of Batman with Batman Begins saved the franchise. I am very much looking forward to the conclusion of what he has always considered a trilogy.

August 30th thru Sep 3rd – WorldCon. This year the world Science-Fiction Convention is inChicago. My sweetie-wife and I already have our memberships and WorldCon is one of my favorite events to attend. Five says of panels, parties, and presentations. I always return from a WorldCon energized and ready to be creative.

October 5th – 7th  — Conjecture. ThisSan Diego’s other SF/Fantasy conventions. Not as old as Condor and with about the same level of attendance, it is another local convention I rarely miss. Last year I was a panelist and man that was a blast.

November 5th – Presidential Election Party. Long a ago when I was still attempting to put some letter after my name, I was a political science major (After being a Film Major and before becoming a biology major, with a checkered academic career like that what can I be besides a writer?) Every presidential election night I throw a small party for my friends, and I could friends on the left and on the right, and we watch the returns, shout at the talking heads, and argue with each other. Lots of fun.

November 23rd thru 25th – LosCon. This is the Los Angeles Area Science-Fiction Convention and one that I have not missed in like 17 years. About three times the size of thSan Diego convention, Loscon has a very different feel, but that is neither good nor batter, but simply unique. It requires hotel rooms, but only two night and they are always affordable. Lately there has been a horror film festival running at the convention and some of the offers are quite surprising.

Dec 14th – The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey. The film fantasy fans have been waiting for sinceJackson wrapped up The Lord Of The Rings with The Return Of The King. Now, after law suits, hurt feelings, a change in directors, and the near bankruptcy of one of the major studios backing it, the film will finally be released. Normally I don’t care about 3D, but this movie I will see in 3D.Jackson not only has shot it in 3D, but h shot it digitally at 48 frames per second and reports are that this looks fantastic.

Dec 21st – World War Z. What better way to end this year than with Zombies?

WoTC will not release sales figures for D&D 4ed, but there is a general opinion in the industry that it has underperformed and that Pathfinder is equal or perhaps exceeding in sales.

What I thought was most interesting about the 5th edition story was the admission that the 4th edition was a mistake!

I’d heard about 5th edition D&D, but I’d be very surprised if it came out in 2012. I’d guess no sooner than Christmas 2013 for development and publication.
