A good day (Part 1)

I took more than two hundred pictures yesterday, but I will not be posting anywhere near that number. Still the number of pictures I am going to post from my day of fun will be sizable so the posts will be behind cutouts and it will be multiple posts.

For those interested in my day at Warner Brothers Studios and Medieval Times follow me past the jump….

I arrived at the San Diego Amtrak station about 5:45 am. Picked up my tickets, a couple of bagels for breakfast, and boarded the train.

Train This photo was taken after I arrived at the Burbank Amtrak station. At San Diego it was too dark for any decent pictures. I selected a seat on the upper-level and settled in for my three hour ride.

On a whim I had decided for the business class of ticket and I am glad that I did so. The seats have more leg room and since your humble host is over 6 feet tall I was grateful for the extra leg room. There was also complimentary coffee, danishes, juice, and a USA Today newspaper.

I set my iPod to Queen, and passed the three hour ride listing to rock-and-roll while reading on my EZReader Pro. The trip was fast, smooth, and uneventful.

As you can see from the picture at 9:30 when I arrived it was sunny and bright and promised to be a hot day for tramping about a studio backlot.

Kiss & Ride As I waited for my taxi I spotted these signs for the temp parking at the Amtrak station in Burbank. (Which is directly across the street from the Burbank Airport.) I have to say that I agree with the sentiment. Many a time I’ve been dropped of with a kiss from my sweetie-wife.

Visitors CenterA brief taxi ride brought me to the Warner Brothers Visitor Center. As you can see you are greeted by two of WB studios most famous characters.

Tour Tram Here’s the Tram and Tour group I was with. I had paid for the five hour deluxe tour and that is limited to just twelve people per tour group. We didn’t even have the full twelve. We had a father and daughter from Virginia celebrating her high school graduation, a married couple from Wales, ( I knew better than to call them British. They were from near Cardiff so of course I kept thinking of Torchwood.) Three men from Germany, and two women from Germany but they were not together. Counting myself that made ten. As I was the only person traveling alone for the tour I decided to sit-up front with David, our tour guide. (Nice chap but reminded me of David Gerrold for some reason.) That’s David approaching the Tram from behind.

Water TowerWe drove across the street and into the backlot of the Studio. You can see one of Hollywood’s more famous landmarks in this picture, the WB water tower. The Tower Was Damaged in an earthquake — I think David sometime in the 1930s, and has not held water since then. So for all you Animanics fans, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot could very well be housed in the structure. BTW the Market to the right of the frame is not a real market. We were already across and in the backlot where nothing is real.
